Pachelbel’s Canon for Viola solo plus Finale strings

I found a midi file of this on the net, opened it in Finale, transposed it down from D to G major, muted the solo part and played it on viola. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did playing it. I am reading the notes off the computer screen.

Cello. Viola may sound very good but finding parts on the internet is pretty difficult & in most songs cello or violin get lead while viola play backround haha.

both cellists and violists are in high demand for playing in orchestras and other venues, violas far much moreso. I personally prefer the sound of the cello for solo playing, but if i am with an orchestra, viola.
however, it all comes down to personal preference. and, if you start one, you can pick up another later! all strings, regardless of the obvious physical and note reading differences, are played in a similar fashion and it is not difficult to switch.

Pick the instrument …
Pick the instrument that sounds best for you. The cello is larger/harder/has a deeper voice. The viola can play very low notes and extend its range up to some pretty high sounds too. Two things to consider are transportation (viola is definately much easier) and sheet music (cellos have lots of sheet music while few composers write for viola – I actually transpose a lot of music from violin!). I have Finale 2009 and I’ve been getting free sheet music from Werner Icking Music Archive (has Finale files in it), altering them, saving them as MIDI files, and plugging them into my piano (which can synthesize as many instruments as I want). It’s a great way to practice! And you can control tempo as well!
