CH-008 • Triad Chords 3/3 (Guitar Lesson)

Part 3. In this lesson I cover the best way to learn and use them – by staying in the same position and being able to use all the chords! Plus I set you the challenge of figuring out how to play the minor versions!

Taught by Justin Sandercoe.

Full support at the web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! There is a great forum too to get help, no matter what the problem.

And it is all totally free, no bull. No sample lessons, no memberships. Just tons of great lessons :)

To get help with your lesson or song look up the number at the start of the video title (like ST-123 or whatever) on the Lesson Index page.

Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison is a great song to work these triads on.

Keep working on the regular C, you will get it and there are times you will need it. If you can make an Am, practice shifting from the Am to the C by just moving the one finger.

i love how the lesson is organized! genius! the first two are nicely paced and step by step and then the last one not only reviews everything but contextualizes it and makes it easy to remember.

the last video is perfect to review the lesson as a whole and is also a great shortcut for slightly more advanced players to kind of speed through a lesson without missing anything.

this is really a great service to all of us who are trying to cultivate our understanding of music. thank you, justin!!

Hi Justin I am new to the guitar and love your videos your great at explaining how things work, I perticularly like this video as I am finding it hard to shape a normal open C chord can I substitute the C with one of these C’s you showed on here to make it easier to play or at least until my left hand gets stronger thanks mate

    This ‘triad’ of …
This ‘triad’ of lessons on the triad were inspiring. The minor chords are actually even easier than the major. I found myself doing some instant reggae mixing the majors nd minors. THANKS!!

One note: sometimes those of us who play an accoustic skip over lessons when the lesson shows an electric. This triad use is great for accoustic…but more down the neck from the tenth fret or so to the first fret. Playing anything on the 13th of my accoustic has all the musical sound of a dead stick..

    as a guitar player …
as a guitar player we must play rhythm most of the time to know how different chord voicings are used in recorded music. he calls them shapes, they are voicings or really they are inversions, 1st inversion might be “C” shape, 2nd inversion might be “D” shape. note that each inversion/shape has its own sound
very important, when trying to learn songs, ever wonder why the chord you are playing sounds ok but not quite right?
    different inversions../positions/voicings/shapes all the same
