I know how to read tablature, and as a pianist I’ve been able to sight-read sheet music for going on 15 years. However, I’ve been playing a guitar for a couple years but I’d like to learn how to play from sheet music instead of tabs. Basically, I’m just looking for how sheet music relates to the guitar; I have a whole stack of sheet music books and I’d like to be able to play them on something other than piano.

First, you need to know the notes on the strings, from thinnest to thickest, they are e B G D A E.

Your thinnest string translates to the 4th inside space from the bottom of the staff (see below)

Imagine this is a staff:

Since you’ve been sight-reading for such a long time, you should be able to pin-point the rest of the notes as well as the step relationships between notes (ie B to C = 1 half step = 1 fret, C to D = 1 whole step = 2 frets, ect)

One note on sheet music – remember you only have 6 strings, any giant chords will need to be shortened down to 6 notes. You also have to keep in mind that you have a very limited range – You can only use a maximum of about 3 octaves to work with at once, so you will have to transpose to play large range songs like Rachmoninov’s Bells of Moscow (Prelude in Csharp minor).

I’ve found guitar music but that doesn’t help me at all. It’s obviously a piano playing in the acoustic version, so there’s got to be piano sheet music for it somewhere. But where?
So far none of these have worked for me. No matter how many times I google it, I can’t find it. And the websites you guys put are all for guitar music. I want piano music specifically for the acoustic version. I just want a link directly to a site where it has that. I’ve tried searching and found nothing. Stop telling me to search.

Anyone know a good website for free sheet music? I would really like some music by rock bands. Classical is fine too, It would just be a plus if there was some rock sheet music. Please and thank you!!!

I just bought a guitar song book. One of the songs is "Wonderwall" by Oasis. The sheet music has both music notation and guitar tablature. Above the music notation are chords at the beginning of each measure. The tablature are for the music notation. It looks like it’s for the melody/lyrics. The music sheet also lists "Strum Pattern: 3" and "Pick Pattern:3". I’m only a beginner guitar, so I’m used to just playing chords.
1. How do I strum the chords to the song? Is it 4 strums per measure as noted in the sheet music?
2. What’s a good method to learn how to play this song using this sheet music?

You don’t have to strum according to the book. Figure out your the best way you can strum (as long as you keep in time) and stick to it.
